One Domain, $33.8k MRR: The Exact-Match SEO Play We Ran

We bought a domain that matched the product's exact name, ranked it in about 12 months, and that combo now accounts for close to half of the $33.8k Stripe MRR on this storefront.

A client asked us to help sell software into a market with heavy competition. We bought a domain that matched the exact product name, a non-.com, then we ranked it.

That combination, domain plus ranking, now accounts for close to half of the Stripe MRR on this storefront.

Here is the full picture, the exact steps, and the tool that made the ranking part fast instead of slow.

The situation

This was a B2B reseller. They sell software into a category where the competition already owns the obvious search terms, the ad auctions are expensive, and a new brand name means starting from zero on trust and on rankings.

We looked at what buyers actually searched when they were ready to purchase. The term was the product name itself. So we bought a non-.com domain that matched that exact product name.

Verdict

VERDICT: Situational

Evidence: Tested

Where it ran: a client project

Timeframe: about 12 months

Result: past $33.8k Stripe MRR on this storefront; about half from Ranked plus the product-specific domain

Best for: markets where buyers search in specific, predictable phrases and the matching domain is still open

Skip if: your category's buying language is vague, branded, or split across too many phrasings to target one domain

Watch out for: buying the domain and stopping there. The domain is the setup, not the result.

Steps to start this week

  1. List the exact product names or description phrases people search for in your space. Use whatever keyword tool you already have, even a free one.
  2. Check domain availability for each term. Don't wait for the .com. A matching non-.com TLD works if it reads clean and matches the term.
  3. Buy the domain. Point DNS to a new mini site built specifically for the product, not a folder buried in your existing site.
  4. Make the home page match the query exactly: same words in the title, same words in the first paragraph, sub-headings containing the exact phrase, and a clear path to buy on that same page.
  5. Do not stop at the landing page. Rank it. Publish supporting content, fix technical basics, build a few real links. A domain with no SEO behind it is not helpful.

We followed this in order. Step 1 confirmed the product name was the search term buyers used, with the .com already taken or priced out of range. Step 2 found a clean non-.com match of that product name, something that read fine and was available. We bought it in step 3 and pointed it at a standalone mini site built for one job, not a folder inside the existing brand site. A related move we own: buying-intent phrase domains, something in the shape of budgetingsoftware.[cc,net,org,us]. We are not running those sites right now. That is a later build but it follows the same core technique.

Step 4 was mechanical but exacting: the domain's phrase had to show up in the title tag, the opening sentence, the sub-headings, and the buy path on the same page. No drift, no cleverness for its own sake.

Step 5 is the one people skip. Buying the right domain gets you very little on its own. We had to actually rank the site: technical setup, content, links, the full mechanic. The domain was the setup. SEO ranking was the payoff.

If you run paid ads, a domain that already matches search intent still helps: better relevance, higher CTR, lower cost per click. We did not run paid ads on this account. The Tested case here is the organic ranking.

Here is the Stripe MRR climb on this storefront over the trailing twelve months. The lift is not a spike from one campaign. It is a compounding curve that starts moving once the domain starts ranking.

THE TOOL WE USED

This link is a referral, and it's also exactly what we used to run SEO on this site: Ranked.

We enrolled on their $199/mo plan for under 12 months. They handled 100% of it: weekly blog posts, on-page and technical fixes across the entire WordPress site, and backlinks for authority. They also got the site showing up in AI search results across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and Perplexity.

On newer sites we now run the $349/mo plan and typically see rankings and organic lead generation inside 3 months. No contracts, month to month, free trial available. Plans start at $99/mo (Standard: 25 focus keywords, one article a week), and they run the whole thing for you.
